The Tûranor PlanetSolar- world’s largest solar-powered ship

The Tûranor PlanetSolar travels the world campaigning for the use of renewable energy. The name of the ship, Tûranor PlanetSolar, is taken from JRR Tolkien's novel Lord of the Rings, which means “the power of the sun." This ship has a body length of up to 31 meters, and can carry up to 40 passengers. The solar panel spans more than 500 m square, moving the ship’s two electric motors. Its shape is purposely designed to have 'legs' of two, to meet aspects of aerodynamics and hydrodynamics. The ship could sail as fast as 14 knots speed ups, or about 26 km per hour.
