It may have been what it is claiming to be - the original secret recipe of Coca Cola that had eluded generations of speculators and even conspiracy theorists.
Even with the current advances in Chemistry and pharmacy (Coke, after all was invented by a pharmacist), the company still stated their trade secret remains closely guarded.
I simply argue that what most people are missing is the fact that Coke's competitive advantage is not in its secret formula. So why the hype?

Every continent that had ever been mapped probably has a Coke product or advertisement in it. Every race knows it, regarldless of tongue. I bet my arm even at the bottom of the ocean, a Coke item lies buried.
This, to me, is what should cause a stir - not its secret formula, because this is what created brand loyalty to Coke.
