Piracy shoots down cruise ships numbers

The threat of pirates along the Somali coastline is scaring off cruise ship travelers denying the country potential visitors to continue the tourism sector’s recovery process.

In 2010, the number of ships arrival dropped by 95% due to the threat.

According to the Central Bank of Kenya’s Monthly Economic Review, there were no cruise arrivals for the period January – August 2010 due to fear to pirate kidnappings off the Kenya Coast.
