AIS is a ongoing and developing standard, with both new uses for the technology and new equipment being introduced on a regular basis.
Many vessels have already fitted the systems and some reports of errors have surfaced. It is felt that many of these problems might be due to faulty installations, but some may not. In any case, the industry is keen to identify common faults and offer advice and corrective measures to reduce these errors.
Mariners, Pilots, VTS and Port Operators are therefore all requested to report AIS problems and feedback to their responsible management.
