Prestigious Double For DNV

Prestigious Double For DNV
25, November 2008

Eivind Grøstad was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, while DNV also retained its Best in Class crown at the Lloyd's List Middle East Awards. November 20, 2008 will go down as one of the most memorable days in Eivind Grøstad's career in DNV. Recognised as "one of the most respected figures on the maritime stage”, Grøstad, DNV Maritime's regional manager Middle East and India, was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by shipping daily Lloyd's List.
DNV also picked the Classification Award, representing a celebrated double win for DNV. "I perceive receiving this honour as a tribute to all co-workers in DNV Middle East and India. Without their contribution, I would not have received this honour,” says Grøstad who has served DNV for nearly 40 years.

In its assessment, the independent judges and Lloyd's List journalists gave weight to the leadership Grøstad has rendered to DNV. "Mr Grøstad has demonstrated substantial past successes and made a long record of contribution to the shipping industry, both in the Middle East and internationally,” said Chris Mayer, executive editor at Lloyd's List. The Classification Award, given for its "continuing commitment to technical excellence in ship classification and risk management” went to DNV – for the second year in succession. The award follows close on the heels of the recent award by Seatrade.
"The fact that we have won the double (both Lloyd's List and Seatrade Awards) for two years in a row is unique in DNV terms. This achievement reflects the standing DNV has in the region and our dedication to attending customer needs. Our brand is second to none,” says Christer Börjesson, DNV Maritime's business development manager in the Middle East & India.
Chris Mayer adds, "The awards provide an opportunity to celebrate maritime excellence and achievement throughout the region. DNV's status on the international maritime stage continues to impress and Mr Grøstad's inspirational leadership is an example for all to follow.”
DNV is the leading classification society in the Middle East and India in terms of gross tonnage operated by owners in the region and more than eight million dwt on order by local owners to DNV class. It has 17 maritime offices in the region with close to 200 employees in the Middle East and India together.
Further expansion is confidently predicted. "With the great support we have had from the maritime environment, we will definitely continue to strengthen our position in this important region,” concludes Grøstad.
