FATIGUE is not being assessed in simulator training, a senior marine surveyor told delegates at the MarTech 2008 conference in Singapore today. Capt Khoo Gek Hung of the Maritime and Port Authority in Singapore was responding to a question after presenting a paper on training instructors of simulator training. The Training of Trainers course provides applicants with non-technical background on the role of an instructor in simulator training. The training focuses on bridge and engine room simulators for deck officers and marine engineers. The overall relationship between the trainer and trainee is evaluated, as well as identifying ways to overcome barriers, but it became clear that no instruction was given on preventing fatigue, which is often a factor in accidents.
