PMMA-PCG to conduct exams for PMMA-PCG Cadets

The Philippine Coast Guard in cooperation with the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy will hold the conduct of nationwide examination for admission to the PMMA Cadetship Program for SY-2011.

Last year, the PCG entered into a MOA with PMMA to accommodate or include Cadets under the PCG Cadetship will go through the 4-year course either in Marine Transportation or Marine Engineer with Coast Guard added subjects and upon graduation, will be commission as officer in the PCG. Out of 17 PCG cadets acceptance to PMMA last year, 14 are pursuing the right cadetship program. For SY-2011, some twenty (20) PCG Cadets will be selected from among the successful examinees. Exams will be given simultaneously on September 25, 2010 starting 8am in all Coast Guard Districts nationwide. Cadet candidates must be high school graduates 16-21 years of age.

Meanwhile, the PCG is hoping for congressional approval of the CY-2011 PCG Budget which includes under it’s Personal Services Appropriation the recruitment of 500 additional Coast Guard personnel next year. From a Lighthouse and Revenue Cutter in 1901, the PCG has transitional into a multi-mission, maritime and mission-ready agency to be able to meet it’s ever increasing mission demands in maritime safety, maritime search and rescue, marine environmental protection, maritime law enforcement, and maritime security.
